Inka-Inés Sampaolo

Lütt & Sööt (Germany)

My name is Inka-Inés Sampaolo, the dollmaker behind Lütt & Sööt and I live with my family in Berlin.
I have been making Waldorf inspired dolls professionally since 2016.

What started as a hobby has gradually developed out of passion into my profession. In this craft I can pursue my passion and urge to create something with my hands.

The origin of my love for wool lies in my childhood, as I spent a lot of time with the sheep - my uncle was a shepherd and my aunt taught me how to spin wool. The memories of shearing sheep and the warm smell of wool still awaken a deep connection to nature and childhood memories in me today.

It feels as if all the different skills and interests that I have developed over the years in other artistic areas - such as sewing, knitting, painting and my love of natural materials - have found their place in my work as a dollmaker.
This is how dolls are created under my hands, which are intended to revive the warmth and simplicity of childhood and touch the heart with their simple, lively charisma.

In this workshop, you will learn Waldorf inspired dollmaking techniques to create a natural, 36 cm tall doll that is both beautiful and full of tenderness, as I share tips and tricks from my years of experience to help you create asweet-looking doll.

You will learn how to shape the head and face, embroider the doll’s eyes, stuff the body and limbs with wool, and stitch all parts together to complete your little doll. I will also teach you how to make a belly button and a sweet little bottom.

Sewing machine skills are not required, as I pre-sew the doll parts for you. However, you need to know the basic stitches of needlework, like the running stitch and ladder stitch. During these two days, we won’t have timeto create a wig or sew clothes. I make the wigs from beautiful mohair wool in advance, therefore I’ll be in contact with you before the workshop to discuss hair and skin color options. During the workshop I will show you how you can crochet them so you can make your next one at home at your own pace.

If you would like to take your doll home beautifully dressed, you can make clothes for your doll by using one of my simple basic patterns, or you can purchase dresses and knitted clothes at the end of the workshop.
