Ildiko Duretz
Waldorf Doll Shop/Ildila (UK)
I am a doll maker and a mother of two boys.
By nationality I am Hungarian but have been living in England for the last 26 years.
As a child I always loved playing with dolls. I still do.😊
Creating dolls using natural fibres have been my passion for almost 20 years now. Originally I learned the basics of creating Waldorf dolls while living in Germany in my 20s. First for many years I made mainly traditional Waldorf dolls for children. These dolls were more simple, had less features.
Later I have started experimenting with new technics, and developed new ways of creating dolls. There are so many ways one can bring a doll alive. The opportunities are endless, and there is always space for new technics.
In the last years I felt ready to share my knowledge, and started to teach doll making. I still love creating these lovely wool children, but teaching, and spending time with like minded people is very rewarding too.
My website is ildila.com but on my social media you find me as Waldorfdollshop

1. DOLL MAKING WORKSHOP FOR 13.5" WALDORF INSPIRED BABY DOLL 19-20th May 2025
Two days of doll-making workshop with all materials provided. We will be making a floppy and weighted 13.5" Waldorf inspired baby doll with traditional face, however to make your doll look very cute, we will add some features to the face using needle felting technic. Your doll will have ears, and cute little hands. The eyes and the mouth will be embroidered.
For the weight in this doll we will be using some glass beads. Glass beads are not suitable for little children. If you wish you can fill your doll only with wool or instead of glass bead weigh it with poly-pellets.
For the hair of the doll you can choose mohair teddy bear fabric, brushed mohair yarn or ready made mohair wig. The wig will be made in advance, but you will have instructions and patterns of how it was made. If you wish to have a ready made mohair wig for your doll, it is an additional £30.
Before the workshop you will be able to choose the hair and skin colour for your doll.
It is not necessary to have doll-making experience for this workshop, but hand sewing and embroidering skills are needed. This workshop is more suitable for people who are experienced sewers.
The full price for the workshop is £380.
The price covers all the materials and refreshments.
After the workshop you will receive a tutorial and pattern for the doll we have made. The full amount is payable at the workshop. You can secure your space on my website HERE, buy paying a £100 deposit.
The deposit is un-refundable unless I can fill your space.
Once you have payed the deposit I will get in touch about skin colour and hair colour options.
The workshop on both days (19-20th May) will be from 9am till 7pm. On the second day I will try to finish earlier, but often it does not work out. I will try to make sure that you will be going home with a ready doll.
All of the sewing work in the two days will be hand-stitching. We will not use sewing machines. I will be pre-sewing the body of the dolls with a sewing machine.
We will not have time to make clothes for the doll, but there will be some baby suits, nappies and knitted clothes available to purchase. You will also be provided with patterns for making some outfits for your doll in advance if you wish to do so.
The class will be small in order to give more teaching time and support to participants.
2. DOLL MAKING WORKSHOP FOR 12" WALDORF INSPIRED DOLL WITH MOHAIR WIG, 21-22nd May 2025
