Ineke Gray
Petit Amsterdam (The Netherlands)
My name is Ineke Gray. I was born and raised in Amsterdam, the Netherlands where i still reside. I am a puppeteer and teach Waldorf dollmaking, with a focus on storytelling and evolving childhood memories.
In this workshop you will craft a hand-sized doll (approximately 20cm). Alongside the doll, you will create a full wardrobe, including shoes, a coat with a hat and a dungaree.
During the workshop we will exclusively work with materials from the plant world. The doll, clothes and wig are made from cotton, viscose and bamboe, some of which are beautifully dyed with natural vegetable dyes.
For the doll's filling, we will use kapok - a wonderfully soft, natural fiber that the kapok tree produces to protect its seeds. There is a thoughtful reason behind this choice; connecting with the plant world naturally leads us to paper. Paper opens up endless possibilities for children's play and for imaginative interactions with the doll. This connection will be a central focus of my lessons.
During the class i will present a puppet show featuring the doll and share many inspiring examples. On the first day, we will dedicate two hours in the afternoon to exploring memories from our own childhood. From these memories, we will create a charming story/playbook perfectly sized for your doll. This story/playbook will guide us in making choices for your doll's character and design.
